The Liberty Hotel, Boston MA

Ah, The Liberty Hotel in Boston, part of the Marriott Luxury Collection – now that’s a place with a history as rich as the chocolate on my pillow! You see, this isn’t your average hotel; it used to house some of Boston’s most notorious criminals. Can you believe it? In 1973, the inmates had had enough and revolted due to the less-than-stellar living conditions. Fast forward to 1991, and Massachusetts General Hospital took over the old joint, looking for proposals to give this place a new lease on life.
Let’s talk about the folks running the show at The Liberty – the staff. They were as friendly and helpful as your favorite neighbor, always ready with a smile and some local tips. They made sure you felt right at home in a place with such a notorious past.
Now, the room… well, it was cozy, to put it politely. Some might say it had a “cell-like” quality to it, especially the shower – I practically had to do yoga moves just to turn around in there! But hey, that’s the charm of staying in a place with character, right?
One thing that didn’t sit well with me was the absence of a little shop on site. Waking up with a pounding headache and being told I had to embark on a CVS adventure to find relief wasn’t my idea of a relaxing morning.
Now, let’s talk about the food – it was good, no doubt about it. But, and it’s a big but, it didn’t quite match up to the price point. We’re talking about Boston here, so you expect a bit more bang for your buck. One memorable evening during our stay, we decided to unwind and catch up with a couple of friends at the hotel bar. We found a cozy nook on the upper-level balcony, perfect for enjoying some nightcaps and good conversation. Little did we know, this night would put our patience to the test.
We eagerly awaited the arrival of a waitress to take our drink orders, but time seemed to slow down as we waited, and waited… and waited some more. Nearly an hour passed, and our group’s thirst was growing stronger than our patience.
Finally, I decided to take matters into my own hands and ventured to the back area on that same level. There, I approached a staff member and politely inquired if someone could assist us. The woman assured us that help was on the way and, you guessed it, we found ourselves waiting once again.
When our savior finally arrived, we wasted no time in placing our drink orders. While the beverages were decent, they didn’t quite reach the heights of extraordinary. Sensing that our server might disappear into the abyss once more, we promptly settled our bill, keeping our fingers crossed for a more prompt experience next time.
It was a night of mixed fortunes at the hotel bar, where good company and a cozy atmosphere were somewhat overshadowed by the waiting game. 🍸⏳ #HotelBarChronicles #PatienceTested
Oh, and despite our Platinum Elite status, there was no room upgrade due to lack of availability. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it did leave a slight dent in the overall experience.
All in all, The Liberty Hotel is quite the unique place with a story to tell, and it made for a great experience. But I have to be honest, it’s unlikely I’ll become a repeat guest. There are just a few too many niggles for a return visit, despite the intriguing history and friendly staff. But hey, at least I can say I’ve spent a night in a former jail, right? 😄🏨🔐
