Free Wi-Fi on American Airlines? Yep, That’s Coming

Starting in January 2026, American Airlines will offer free inflight Wi-Fi to all AAdvantage members, thanks to a sponsorship from AT&T. That’s right—no need to pay to scroll, stream, or send memes from 35,000 feet.

This free Wi-Fi will be available on planes equipped with Viasat and Intelsat satellite systems, which make up about 90 percent of American’s fleet. So if you're on an American flight, chances are you’ll be cruising the internet while cruising through the skies.

To get ready for the launch, American tested free Wi-Fi on a few select routes. The results? Better than expected. The airline is also working to install high-speed Wi-Fi on over 500 regional planes by the end of 2025.

This move comes not long after American named a new Chief Customer Officer, Alison Taylor Garboden. The airline says it’s doubling down on improving the entire travel experience—from booking your ticket to binge-watching cat videos mid-flight.

Not an AAdvantage loyalist? Sign up HERE for free and be ready for that sweet sweet inflight Wi-Fi at no cost to you. Free internet while flying? That’s peak 2026 energy.

And no, this new perk doesn’t mess with the current setup for T-Mobile users. If you’ve been getting free Wi-Fi with T-Mobile on American flights (guilty 🙋🏻‍♀️), you’re still good.

So basically: if you like free stuff and hate staring at the back of the seat in front of you, 2026 is looking up.
